This privacy policy explains how personal information is handled in connection with the Aries Portal website at ariesportal.online. It is written to be specific to this site, which is deliberately built to collect as little as possible. Please read it alongside our cookie policy, which explains why this site sets no cookies.

2. What we actually collect

We want to be exact about this, because a policy that describes data collection that does not happen is worse than useless. In plain terms:

• Through the website itself: nothing. There are no forms, no sign-up boxes, no accounts, no newsletter, no quiz and no chat widget on this site. We set no cookies and use no analytics, advertising or tracking tools of any kind. There is nothing on the page collecting information about you.
• Ordinary server logs. Like almost every website, the server that hosts this site automatically records standard technical information when a page is requested: your IP address, your browser type and user agent, the URL you requested, and the date and time. These logs are created by the hosting provider for security and diagnostics.
• Anything you put in an email. If you email us at the address above, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write.

3. Why we hold each category, and on what basis

Because the site sets no cookies and runs no tracking, there is no consent-based processing to describe — there is nothing to consent to.

4. How long we keep it

• Server logs are retained by the hosting provider for a short period for security and diagnostic purposes — generally up to 90 days — and are then deleted or overwritten in the ordinary course.
• Emails you send us are kept for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and for a reasonable period afterwards in case of follow-up, and no longer than 24 months, after which they are deleted unless we are required to keep them for a legal reason.

5. Who your information is shared with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. The only third parties involved in the ordinary running of this site are:

• Our hosting provider, which operates the servers that deliver the site and creates the server logs described above on our behalf.
• Google, in one narrow respect: this site loads a web-font stylesheet from Google Fonts. When your browser requests those font files, Google receives your IP address as part of that request. Cross-border disclosure (Australian Privacy Principle 8). Because our hosting provider and Google operate servers outside Australia, the limited information above may be disclosed to, or accessible from, recipients located overseas, including in the European Union, the United States and other countries. We take reasonable steps to deal only with reputable providers, but by using the site you acknowledge this cross-border handling.

6. How we protect your information

This site is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Access to any email correspondence is limited to the publisher. Because we hold so little — no accounts, no databases of personal details, no payment information — there is very little to protect, which is itself a deliberate security measure.

7. Your rights under the Australian Privacy Principles

If a data breach were to occur that is likely to result in serious harm to anyone whose personal information we hold, we would assess it and, where the scheme requires, notify the affected individuals and the OAIC in accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme under the Privacy Act 1988.

9. Children

This site is not directed at children under 16, is not intended for them, and collects nothing from them — as it collects nothing from anyone through the site. The content is general information written for an adult audience.

10. Information for EU and UK visitors (GDPR)

Our publisher is established in the Czech Republic, so where the EU General Data Protection Regulation (and, for UK visitors, the UK GDPR) applies, the following also applies. The legal basis we rely on for the limited processing described above — server logs and email correspondence — is our legitimate interests in operating the site securely and in responding to you. We do not rely on consent, because the site sets no cookies and runs no tracking. You have the rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and to object to processing carried out on the basis of legitimate interests. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in the Czech Republic, the Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů (Office for Personal Data Protection).
