TotalAV: a plain-language overview

What we will not tell you

We will not quote a price, a discount percentage or a plan inclusion here, because those are the vendor’s to state and ours to get wrong as they change. We will not present test scores as if we produced them, invent a rating, or claim TotalAV is the best, the most secure, or a guaranteed defence — no responsible source makes claims like that about any product. And we will not tell you that your device is currently at risk, because we have no way of knowing that and it would be untrue. What we offer instead is a fair frame and reliable places to check the facts.

A brief word on why we are so careful with product specifics. Prices and plan contents in this category change often — introductory rates, seasonal changes, new bundles — and an out-of-date figure repeated on a page like this would be worse than no figure at all, because it could mislead you into expecting something that is no longer true. Deciding for yourself

If it measures up for your situation, it is a reasonable choice; if a competitor measures up better on the things you care about, choose that instead. Why we use a worked example at all

You might reasonably ask why we single out one product rather than ranking many. The honest reason is the one on our About page: our scope is narrow, and we would rather be clear about that than pretend to a sweeping, disinterested survey we do not offer. A worked example has a second benefit, though. By showing how to read one product carefully — where to find the renewal price, which claims to verify independently, what to ignore — we give you a method you can carry to any competitor. The skill of reading a product critically is more durable than any single recommendation, because products and prices change while the method does not.
